The Department servers, math.newhaven.edu and comp.newhaven.edu
The servers.
These web pages, along with all other Department activities are run
from math.newhaven.edu. The computing resources
are run from comp.newhaven.edu. This server is a dual quad Xeon processor
with 132Gb or memory and 2Tb of disk space running Ubuntu 16.04
LTS 64 bit Linux.
The server also provides students and faculty access to wide range of
open source mathematics and numerical software, along with
Mathematica and other proprietary software products.
Further information about the math IRC server can be found at online.
The web server is running TexLive, and it provides MathJax font
services for the Department, and has Matlab, Mathematica, Geogebra
and a wide range of computational software along with TexLive.
In contrast the computation server provides Mathematica, Matlab, and of course
a range of programming languages including C, C++, Java, and Python.
We are also planning to launch
a Sage server on this platform in Spring 2017.
If you have not used Linux before, or are new to alternative
options in computing, let us know.
We can help to get you started.
Accounts.
Students who are doing a major or a minor in mathematics, or who
are engaged in supervised research (e.g., on a SURF grant, or other
grant) may apply for an account on comp.newhaven.edu.
In addition, students whose Departmental
classes require access to this server will have accounts generated.
Faculty outside of mathematics and physics
engaged in computational research should also contact the
Department directly.
Further information about computational mathematics is detailed at
IRC server.
